Build Me Up Buttercup...

Buried on page 3 of the Daily Disappointment this morning was a story about a spin-up group wanting local tax money to promote the 2010 Census in G.I.  The report went on to state that there are parts of our drive-by city that are "hard to count."  They went on to identify the problem areas and that for a token $20,000.00 in "free tax money" from the EDC crowd and $70,000,00 from private sources...they will spray the city with advertising encouraging the locals...some not so local...to participate in the upcoming head count.  The ulterior motive is to roll Grand Island's population over the 50K mark so it can become an "entitlement community"...qualifying the former Third City for more "free" federal and state tax dollars down the road.  Hey...why not?  It's "free money."

So where does the $90,000.00 ($20,000.00 "free" tax dollars)...if they collect that much...go?  Well it goes to the local media of course.  Talk about Stimulus II.  Will the EDC reduce the "free tax money" proportionately if the private contributions fall short?  I remember in the old days when there were free PSA's/ads played/printed in abundance when there was a need to benefit a community/organization.  Obviously those old days are long forgotten.

I'm not sure if by a "drive by" you are referring to the 4-5 active dive by shooting areas, or just travelers just driving by.

I have some pals on GIPD, and there are places in the Third City they don't like to go into.

Maybe when they experience the State Fair, these folks will feel more like Nebraskans.

The consensus census is now on the front page. Maybe you guys could do it like an old Chicago election. Count the cemeteries and all. Do it during Husker Harvest days, or Hoops Mania. As W.C. Fields said, "Anything worth winning is worth cheating for!"

I could save them 50K by just hanging out at the Conestoga or Swift at shift change and pay out 5.00 a signature and they would have 10,000 residents in a matter of a couple of days.

I think Mayor Maggie and Marlan need to put a call into ACORN or whatever it's called now. Maggie is a good Democrat she will get the job done. I figure they have to...GI is broke.

I see Adrian has sent out a political advertisement that was paid for by we the people. The Dems and Independents could probably get rid of Smith by not filling out the census. The flip side of "Give Ben the Boot!"

Next to follow, a robocall to everyone in the Third to fill out the census. Paid for by the gubmint, but promoted by Smith for Congress.

Going through the list of "Who's Who" behind the census "form filling" drive I think GI could easily approach 75,000 if they don't coordinate the falsifying...er...registrations. The EDC Director reported that the 50,000 didn't have to live in the city limits...just in proximity. I guess this means that they can add in the folks from Aurora...Hastings and Kearney.

I heard it from the horses mouth on KRGI on the way back into town this afternoon that Mayor Maggie will not be in the running in the next mayoral race. Quote "...ten years is enough..." I say ten years was too much the way her leadership ran up the city's debt with her grandiose plans. She spent money faster than BTO did when he was in the Navy on shore leave. But like Obama...in her heart and soul she was great and her legacy should merit a statue in her honor somewhere.

That leaves Vavricek...Meyer and Frank Robinson the guy that threatened his estranged wife who may be in jail for all I know and is a philosopher of life...on the "A" list of candidates. With just a few days left before the filing date arrives there may be another candidate pop up since Hornady's announcement.

Vavricek is eliminated immediately because he is a tax and spender then tax and spend some more kind of guy leaving Meyer and Robinson I see nothing wrong with Meyer other than he might be in the pockets of the Fire Dept. Union. So if Robinson isn't in jail come election time he may get my vote. I wonder which one gets the honor of being named as the Republican?

Life in Grand Island is indeed that...Grand.

I had no idea that Isle de Grande was such a complicated place. I had always assumed it was just the Ol Boys Club. You know, "If there is nothing in it for me, it ain't gonna be!"
